A Spooky, Scary Sculpture, Pumpkin Spice, and Everything Nice

So another week has gone by, and it's been one heck of a busy one! I've been hard at work behind-the-scenes on a variety of projects that I'm eager to see come to fruition in time and share when the time is right. Until then, I have a spooky blog for you that seems especially fitting for this October season!

Fitting music accompaniment below: "Spooky, Scary Skeletons" - Extended Mix.

Sculpting the Figure from Life Work in Progress

Last week I shared a blog with you that showed the preliminary results from my first "Sculpting the Figure from Life" class held at Blizzard. This week I spent another three hours on it during the second class (above), and tossed some green Chavant NSP Medium clay over top of the brown Chavant NSP Hard skeleton I'd created.  I'm hoping I don't regret mixing the two.

I then took the figure home and worked on it a little bit last night. Most notably I refined the skeletal portions and then worked on her face and put in a 6mm sardonyx gemstone eye. I liked that it was a bit milky, and sort of "undead" looking. I wonder what this gal's story is, anyway?

This is a bit of a weird project for me because I'm not sculpting anything or anyone in particular. We were just instructed to create a figure that was half skeletal and half flesh, and I'm still trying to figure out exactly how I want to pull it off the mix between the two.  I'm definitely eager to put her in a base this week so it's less precarious when I'm moving her two and fro!

In the background you might also notice my new (used) Asus laptop! I spent a good deal of time this weekend upgrading and backing-up my phone and laptop, and I'm really hoping that I get a lot of mileage out of these two major upgrades!

After enjoying using Chavant clay, I decided it was high-time I give Monster Clay a full-fledged try, and I'm looking forward to seeing what I can create (and perhaps cast!) using this new material. I'm definitely impressed with the many creations I've seen that used this material.

Further Organization

I also spent a bit of time lately trying to further organize the compact closet in my art room. The section on the left has given me a heck of a lot of trouble (since I also store my keyboard in this closet), but last night I feel like I pulled off a bit of a miracle in this game of Tetris. Can you see the shoe rack shelf balancing on the storage cube? >_>

Thank goodness for Michael's and Target sales coupons!

Pumpkin Spice Everything Season!

'Tis the season for... my favorite season, really: Pumpkin Spice Season! Not only have I indulged in just about everything pumpkin spice that I can get my hands on, but one of my awesome friends, Kierpanda, sent me a care package full of more delectable goodness on the left there! It is sure to keep me on an even sugar rush during these very busy times!

Finding Calmness

My Native American fetishes, gemstones, feathers, and more.

With how absolutely crazy the last few weeks have been, it's been nice taking a few breathers to allow myself time to relax, be creative, and play games (especially Heroes of the Storm, Diablo III, and Skylanders). While I know my work schedule will continue to ramp-up as we approach BlizzCon, I know it's also within my power to ensure that I make time for myself. Undoubtedly, this will also include upping my exercise routine in order to counteract all the pumpkin spice goodness, too. >_>

I hope all of you have a wonderful week, and thanks again for reading my blog!

  1. Ah, Kymba - I so admire your imagination and energy - and the beautiful work you create! Thank you for sharing your many projects - they always astound me. And I love how many similar things we both do (organizing closets) and personal passions we share (hawks and all thing NA). I too have an "altar" for my Native American pieces (arrowheads, spears, hatchets, grinding stones, turtle shell rattler) as well as wide range of items from nature (feathers, pieces of fur, crystals, fossils, deer antlers, shells)....you get the idea. My office walls are covered with hand woven rugs, an authentic hand-beaded wampum belt (given to my grandfather from a chief) and artwork. I can see that we both love to be surrounded by nature and art - yet have everything organized at our fingertips to do our own creating. Of Course, during the actual creating process, that's another story - right?? :0)

    1. Thank you so very much, and my deepest apologies for the delayed reply! I'd love to see your Native American pieces and work space if you ever get a chance! I've always been fascinated seeing what other creative souls surround themselves with. :)

And yes! Surrounding myself with things I find calming has definitely helped my creative process! The organizational bit is a fine part of it too, but sometimes I find myself getting so wrapped up in the organizing, that it cuts into my art time! Oops! :)
